Jasmine Bailey was a spoken word poet and sickle cell advocate. Bailey was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia at birth, and strived to support those who are affected by the disease. She was involved in numerous volunteer services throughout her community including becoming a Candy Striper to help others and volunteering for the Southern Regional Sickle Cell Center. Along with a plethora of volunteer services, she also participated in various activities such as S.T.O.P. (Students Taking a stand On Prevention). Through her talent she became South Florida’s finalist in the counties’ poetry slam competition. Bailey passed away on December 5th, 2013.
